《My New Teachers》

  Good morning, my dear judges. I’m glad to stand here and interpret my teaching ideas. To explain what to teach, how to teach and why, I’ll share my lesson from six parts.

  Analysis of teaching materials:

  First of all, let’s focus on the analysis of teaching material. This lesson is from the Reading & Vocabulary part of Unit2, Foreign Language Teaching and Research press, English book of senior high.This lesson mainly talks about three new teachers and their students’ impression of them. By learning this, students can describe their own teachers with some adjectives.

  Analysis of students:

  As for students, they have learned English for several years, so they can get the main idea of a shot passage, but they don’t know the skills of grasp the detailed information of a longer passage.What’s more, as they are freshman in high school, they are quite curious about the new things, especially their new teachers.

  Teaching aims:

  Based on the analysis of teaching material and students, I set the teaching aims as follows:

  Knowledge aims:

  Students can grasp the character of each teacher.

  Students can master the adjective words and verbs to ,such as shy ,popular, appreciate and so on.

  Ability aims:

  Students’ ability of scanning can be improved by reading the passage in different ways.

  Students are able to describe people by using the adjective words and verbs.

  Emotional aims:

  After learning this lesson, students will learn to love and respect their own teachers.

  Students will have more exception of their high school life.

  The key and different points:

  According to the analysis above, I set my key and different point as follows:

  The key point is students can grasp the detail of this passage and be able to use the describing words. As for different point, students can respect and love their teachers.

  Teaching methods:

  Based on the analysis above, the teaching methods I mainly are communicative methods, Task-based teaching method. As for study methods, they will mainly use discussion, communicative, so as to be the real host of the class.

  Teaching procedures:

  Now, let’s move to the most important part of my presentation, teaching procedures. It is made up by 5 steps.

  (Leading-in)The first step is leading-in. In this step, I will ask student to discuss “Which teacher do you like best in your middle school, and why?”Because students are freshman, they would glad to share their experience in their middle school. By sharing their favorite teachers, they will be interested in the class,and they’ll use some adjectives we’ve learned in introduction part,such as popular, kind, humorous. Which can help them to understand the passage more easily.

  (Pre-reading)Secondly, in pre-reading part, I’ll show the pictures of the three teachers in the passage, and lead students to guess”What are the personality and teaching style of each teacher?”In this way, it can arouse students’ interest and curiosity about reading the passage. At the same time, students can get familiar with the main idea of the passage, which can help them get the detailed information quickly and smoothly.

  (While-reading)In such a nice atmosphere, I’ll use task-based teaching method to begin my real lesson.

  Firstly, I’ll give students 3mins to read the passage quickly and find out the main idea of the passage.The passage mainly tells 3 new teachers main personality and their students’ impression of them, which is quite clear. Therefore, students can summarize it easily.

  Next, let’s move to focus on detail reading. At the beginning,I’ll give students 1mins to fill in the first and second rows of the table as follows:

  

 

  This tasked is quite easy, so students can find the answers without difficulties. Then I will give them 3mins to finish the table in group of four. As the answers are detailed information, I will lead them to use scanning to find out the answers. The purpose of this design is to build the reading skill, scanning, as well as help them to get a deeply understanding of this passage, getting familiar with the describing words.

  (Post-reading) Then it should be post-reading part. In this stage, students are going to discuss two questions. The first one is”we’ve the three new teachers, which one do you like best and why?” The second one is “which new teacher do you like best in your newly high school life and why?”.The first question is a simple one, which is used to consolidate the detail of the passage and the describing words. However, the second one is a more difficulty one, which is aim to put what they’ve learned into use, to describe their favorite new teacher. Moreover,it can help students have a better understanding of their teachers and love them more.

  (Summary&Homework)After discussing, I’ll summary that no matter what kind of teacher they are, they are always thinking of their students and doing good for them. We should respect them and love them. After class, students are required to write a short passage to describe their favorite teachers. In this way, students can consolidate what they have learned today in writing and at the same time, they would have a deeper feeling of their new teachers, which certainly helps a lot for their further study.

  Blackboard-design:

  At last, I’d like to share my blackboard-design. I’ll write the describing words mentioned by students in leading-in and pre-reading part on the left part of the blackboard. And the table of detailed information in the middle. The purpose to present in this way is to help students to catch the new words and information of the passage clearly and directly.
